Named in honour of Ernest O. Lawrence the inventor of the
cyclotron.

Lawrencium
classified as an element in the Actinide series as one of the
"Rare Earth Elements" which can located in Group 3 elements of the
Periodic Table and in the 6th and 7th periods. The Rare Earth

Element
Lawrencium was discovered by Albert Ghiorso, Torbjorn Sikkeland,
Almon Larsh and Robert M. Latimer in 1961 at the Berkeley
Radiation Laboratory (now called Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory) in the University of California.
